Trick-or-Treating and Pests 101

Now that we have made it through the blistering hot days of summer, the cooler days of autumn lie ahead. That means we will also be approaching a new holiday: Halloween! While we can assume that spooky times are to come, we don’t want to welcome scary pests. Here are four pests you may encounter while trick-or-treating and how to handle them.

Spiders

One of the most popular Halloween decorations, spiders tend to be one of the most frightening pests. Although generally spotting a spider is no more than an unappealing sight, you should look out for and avoid Black Widow spiders and Brown Recluse spiders. If you happen to see one of these spiders in your living space, contact our pest service to have them safely removed.

Bed Bugs

Arguably the most despised pest, bed bugs like to live in your mattress or sheets. Much like Dracula, they enjoy biting humans and sucking out their blood, especially during the nighttime. They also hide in other areas of the home such as electrical work, baseboards or even luggage. At first sight of a bed bug, it is a good idea to contact a pest professional before they turn into an infestation.

Rats

Another pest that you can find year-round but that you may see more of around Halloween is the rat. Did you know that a rat can squeeze through a hole the size of a quarter? You might just find one gnawing away at the insides of your carved pumpkin! If you have a rat infestation, contact our pest service to have it removed or to learn the best at-home method to handle them.

Cockroaches

The last spooky pest you may find in your house, especially in colder weather, is the cockroach. Roaches enjoy warmth, which is why they may get into your house and find somewhere warm and cozy, such as the back part of your refrigerator or your television. The only cockroaches you should see in your house are plastic decorative ones for Halloween! Contact us to take care of these pests for you before they become too much of a nuisance.

While you may want a good Halloween scare, we hope it is out of fun and not because of unwanted pests. For all of your pest control needs, regardless of the season or holiday, contact Gibson Pest Control or call us at 888-483-6507.
